and I am well pleased. I cannot give you all the details of the ceremony, as it is sacred. I do have ashes from the fire where we sent offerings to our Creator. I smell like cedar smoke. It is all in my hair and clothes. I wore my feathers, my turquoise suede shirt, my black skirt and heels. I also donned my choker that I made, my medicine bag, and my turquiose ring that is shaped like a marquise diamond. My hair was in ponytails. My black shawl which my mother made for me a while ago was also across my shoulders. My mother gave me the name she thought best spoke of my character and my inner being. I nearly cried, but laughed to hide the searing emotion. There was a dead pause after my name was spoken...the weight of it bearing down on all of us present. It was said that I have a lot to live up to, but with the Creator's help, I will do it with flying colors. Oh, my son let me braid his hair into a single braid. He looked so much like his cousins that I nearly snatched the wrong kid! HAHA.
Okay I know I have been making you wait long enough to know the name that I am now free to speak and put on anything I like...take a look and tell me what you think:
Here are a few other pictures. The first is me sleepy after the ceremony and the last 2 are from before the ceremony. My little sis is next to me getting her name the same day. She also got an awesome name that evoked a collective sigh from all the attendees. My mother has a gift for naming.
Pray for me, friends...that all goes well with us and our tribe on this very special sacred occasion.
