My son is in the living room right now getting his dose of classic musical culture. We are watching Silk Stockings from 1957:

A very remarkable film about Russians who come to Paris and get their ideas blown right out of their heads. Very nice. My son is loving it. He gets a real kick out of musicals. I am so glad to be able to pass down my love for true art and theater to my son. It is not a wasted endeavor. He also enjoys watching shows that showcase different forms of dancing and singing. One of his favorite singing forms:

OPERA.

No joke. He has a voice that is very close to rivaling Pavarotti when he is in full opera mode...and he's only SIX.

Well, these movies aren't new, but I have never seen them before. I just watched them both yesterday and BOY was I missing some good movies. Frequency is an unexpected, twisting road...as is Perfect Stranger. They both have actors that I love and they are both movies I would love to buy eventually.

I dont care what anyone says, that movie is crazy and just GOOD. Unpredictable, except for the love interest. Nothing could have prepared me and hubby for the movie excellence that ensued. Smith was amazing in his role as Mr. Thomas. Great film. I highly recommend this one to all *not children, tho...it's a bit much for them*.

Hilarity. I love these gals anyway, but this movie just made me love them even more. It wasn't what I expected, at all. I didn't really want to watch it. Hubby talked me into it and VOILA! Smash hit. The climax of the story was great. I adored the ending. It was just an all around great movie. I have to give this one an A+. YAY for Tina and Amy. Keep up the awesomeness.

Tropic Thunder

Ridiculous. Disgusting. Over the top. What else do you expect from Jack Black and friends? It was funny, too, but overall I could go the rest of my life and not see it again. The gore was just a bit much at times. The crude humor...well... I am glad we waited for my son to be asleep before we turned this one on. It had LOTS of "words" in it. I do not recommend you watch it with any child EVER. I like Jack Black and a number of other actors in the movie. The end wasn't bad, either. Overall, I give it a C+.

This movie had me on the edge of my seat from moment one. I couldn't believe the turns and twists of the plot. All the actors did a great job *till the mushy end*. I didn't go in with any expectations of the movie, since I had NO IDEA what it was about beforehand. Sometimes movies are even better when you don't know what to expect from them. A+ for this one!

Journey to the Center of the Earth Trailer

So it wasn't as cheesy as I thought it would be. Actually, it was pretty funny and kind of intense. I really enjoyed it, as did my husband. Brendan Fraser is usually an adventurer or scientist who ends up with more than he bargains for, but it works in this film as it has in his Mummy thrillogy. The little boy they have playing as his nephew reminds me a lot of Elijah Wood, but he is a solid actor in his own right. I loved the woman in the film and was extremely happy that there wasn't a whole heap of adult humor in the film. There was one cheeseball theme that ran through the end of it that had something to do with a bird, but someone will find it heartwarming. ... A good one to be shared with the entire family. I give it 4 out of 5 stars, myself.

Joker Hospital Scene - Dark Night

Heath Ledger - stunning performance. Not even he could have surpassed himself after this movie.
Christian Bale - respectable. He makes a great winged menace.

My qualms:

Movie length. Umm... 3 1/2 hours later... wow. I thought the movie ended at least 3 times but it just KEPT GOING!! AUGH!!!
Some of the mobsters were cornball-ish. I couldn't take them very seriously. Some of the acting was over the top funny instead of over the top sensational.

Other than that, the movie was great. I will probably end up getting the gold edition once it comes out on DVD. Seeing it at the drive-in was pretty nifty, too.

We did watch another movie before this one, but I will save that review for later.

Old School (Unrated) [HD DVD]

We just watched this last night. It was hilarious! I was falling over laughing with my husband at this one. I don't recommend it around children at all, but adults can have a great amount of fun watching the movie. The only annoying part was that boy that Paula Abdul allegedly dealt with is in the movie running around with his afro all bouncing in the wind. ICK!! Other than that, it was good !
