My dog is an escapist. He loves to get out of the house and run around the neighborhood. It hasn't happened in a while, since we have kept a tight reign on him and finally taught the Kid that it is NOT okay to just open the door while the dog is running loose in the house.
This morning, however, I put his leash on him and sent him outside like I usually do. Something told me to look out the window and check on him. His entire choke collar was off, and he was standing there looking up for the dogs that live above us. Why didn't he run? I calmly opened the door and called him back in. Normally, he would say "haha screw you!" and take off. Today, he just excitedly came back in and sat down with me. I pulled his leash back in, put it back on, and sent him out again. The dog seemed never the wiser about what had just occurred. I have to wonder if he knew and just didn't care to run away, or did he not even notice. Either way, he is still outside sitting in his favorite spot enjoying nature going by and I am here not having to worry about whether or not he will eat someone else's pet.
I think one needs a sense of humor to train a dog, though. I was just reading some fun filled articles about dog training. If you have questions that need to be answered, then you should definitely take a look at the Q&A section. When I saw it I though of Luna. She just got a new puppy that needs to be paper trained. There is plenty of information to be had, and a chuckle or two along the way. I appreciate humor when it comes to animals. They are like children, you have to train them the right way or suffer the consequences.
We have to retrain him for his crate, so I am especially interested in their tips on that. When it gets cold and nasty outside, we won't have the option of just letting him sit out there till we return, like we do for our short trips now. It's either the kennel around the corner or the crate in the house. When all you want is to go to the store, it's a bit much to take him to the kennel.
I get a dog horoscope on my Inbox for fun every day. Sometimes they are dead on as to what the dog is dealing with, and other times not so much. It has lead me to believe that I should try out a different service for the reading. I was interested to find out through dog horoscopes that Coby *being an Aries* wants to be first all the time. It explains a lot, since his demanding behavior lead me to believe that he was just jealous. I think it's worth a more in-depth look. Anyone else do this with their pets?
I hate when it rains like the earth is trying take back New Jersey. It didn't bother me so much before I had a dog. I have to walk the dog in the pouring rain. I hate how he comes in and smells like the Green Tea & Mint shampoo I bought from a pet supplies store online mingled with the stench of wet dog. Then said dog runs all over my house, rubbing his body all over floor and shaking the wetness ALL OVER MY COUCHES >__< ....
Do any of you ever put your dog in a kennel? I'm not talking about the small crate at your house, I am talking about the kind you put the dog in when you are going away for overnights or things like that. I put my dog in a kennel on Saturday night and he came back smelling like *gasp* a dog. EW! I hate when he smells like that. I brushed him down in baking soda which neutralizes the smell and makes him stop itching so much. He was shedding more, too. I was unaware that a dog would shed in the middle of winter like this...then again I have never had an inside dog bigger than a chihuahua and that one wasn't mine.
Thanks to Ln I have just joined the homeschool group on Vox. I think the tagline is great. I won't tell you what it is. Go see for yourself.
ANYWHO I usually leave my homeschool ramblings to my son's blog, but now I have some incentive to put more about it here. YAY me
Right now we are still unschooling, which means we have no set curriculum and just go with the flow. He loves the Brighter Vision learning packets. They are a little under $18 a month. I like the books that they send for us to read together, the free gel pen for me, and the activity that they send inside. He knows when he sees the box it's more fun for him. I wish they had an affiliate program because I would be tooting their horn all over the blogosphere...I kind of am anyway because it is our main source for any set learning. If you want to check out the unit and see if it's for you, they have a free offer. That's how we got hooked. The brand new books they send are worth at least $10 each...that is the reading book and the workbooks. High quality stuff.
Okay that's my happy thought for now.
BY THE WAY we are picking up Coby this morning. A day early! I am so excited. We are leaving in a few minutes. More when I come back.
I am getting more pet owner opinions on pet insurance. I was also searching around the Googlesphere and found this article about why and why not to get pet insurance. I also found an alternative discount plan that ends up being either 99$ a year or 9.95$ a month. You get discounts on everything for your pet. Geez.. I would love to get discounts for him. I know I am going to end up spending a whole heap of cash on stuff for him *just like I do for my son*...I would have to find one that has more retailers closer to where I am. ...off to keep looking...
I wonder if any of you with pets have bought health care plans for your pets. I was looking at different prices for pPet Insurance plans and found some pretty reasonable prices. I will probably end up getting a few quotes and discussing it with my husband in the long run. If we are going to get another addition to the family, we ought to make sure we can pay for their health care. Having a pet is like having another child. So far the insurance that I have found for pets runs from $10.95 and up per month. That's really cheap especially considering how much we pay out of Husby's pay for human health insurance for the three of us. The cheapest insurance I have found thus far is the QuickCare plan from PetCare. The other candidate that I had in mind was $12.95 a month for the same type of coverage. What is your experience with pet insurance and such?

Okay, we hate to ask, but... over the roll or under the roll?
What is the point in asking this question?
I will answer it because I am devoid of topics at this moment...other than about my doggie....
I like it over the roll.
and you all can help me get him... PRAY for us to be able to get this dog. He is just PERFECT for our family. I really really like him already. We get to meet him next week. I want him to be here before the end of the month. I just have this feeling that he is the one for us. Just look at this punum!
